COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State seniors Derrick Alston. Jr. and Abu Kigab earned All-Mountain West recognition, the league announced Tuesday. Alston was named to the first team and Kigab to the second team, in a vote by the conference’s 11 head coaches.

Alston’s first-team selection is the fifth for a Bronco in the coaches’ poll during Boise State’s 10 years as Mountain West members, joining Derrick Marks (2015), James Webb III (2016) and Chandler Hutchison (2017, 2018).

Alston led the Mountain West with 361 points during conference play, finishing second in the league at 18.1 points per game. He did so shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from three-point range and 85.7 percent from the free throw line, ranking in the top four of the league in each category. He led the league with 11 20-point games in conference play.

Alston has earned all-conference recognition three times. He was named to the second team last season and honorable mention as a sophomore.

Kigab was Boise State’s second-leading scorer and rebounder in Mountain West play, averaging 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. He blocked 20 shots in 20 league games, tied for the third most blocks in the conference and sixth in blocks per game (1.0). Kigab also ranked sixth in the conference in free throw shooting at 75 percent.

Alston and Kigab were also selected to the media’s all-conference teams earlier this week. Alston to the first team and Kigab the third team.

The 2021 Mountain West Championship begins Wednesday, with three opening-round games. The Broncos begin tournament play Thursday, in a quarterfinal matchup with Nevada. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PT at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas
